Jaygen totally surprised me when he asked if he could take karate! I never would have guessed that he would like anything like that. Well, you have to be 6 years old to take karate so the week he turned 6 we got him signed up. The first week he went, he kept telling me he was a little nervous. Then the second week I was the one that was a little nervous. I went to pick him up and got there a little early so I got to watch them for a minute. They were fighting (sparring) one-on-one in the middle of the floor in front of everyone. I could tell that Jaygen was petrified!!! My eyes totally filled with tears. I was so nervous for Jaygen because I knew he was nervous. Jaygen is not a fighter. He is such a sensitive little guy. Well, it was his turn to fight and he walked really slow out to the middle of the floor to meet his competetor. I was just waiting for Jaygen to start crying and come running over to me, but he didn't. He totally started fighting...punching and kicking. Then I totally couldn't hold the tears back because now I couldn't believe my little baby boy was fighting. Little Jaygen won his fight too...good job buddy!! Jaygen has totally surprised me. I never would have guessed he would love karate so much! He has passed his first move off and earned his first stripe so I guess I need to buy him a karate uniform so he looks the part. Jaygen's karate teacher gives out one medal each week, "the winners medal", to the student that she thinks worked the harderst and Jaygen got it last week. He was so excited he had to come right home and call grandpa Marshall to tell him! I am so proud of Jaygen for wanting to try something new. I hope he sticks with it...and I hope I can get my tears under control! :)
